1. Description of Our Community
Kaohsiung is the second city in Taiwan. It is named the capital of ocean and important place of industry and commerce. Kaohsiung City owns the various sights, which includes ocean, ports, mountains, and rivers. In recent years, the government has been praised for building the sights of humanities and artistic culture, such as Urban Spotlight and Love River. It also hosted the World Games in 2009. The whole environment of Kaohsiung has had the momentum of the great city, and many constructions have built for this city because they have seen that Kaohsiung is ready to spread its wings so wide. Due to the advantages of nature and culture, there are a lot of outstanding enterprises set up here. One of the most famous companies is Sunon which uses all of his resources to take care of the disadvantaged groups with true love.
2. Summary of Our Project
Our specialization is computer and business. One of the famous persons in our hometown is Alex Horng, with positive, innovative, and pragmatic attitude to create the Sunon enterprise, the Sheng Yuan Center for special children, and the Sunon charitable foundation. The Sunon enterprise specializes in motors and ventilators, tallying with of what we’ve learned. This is one reason we chose Sunon electronics as our topic for investigation. Modern technology has an increasingly rapid development now. Eight people out of ten have their own personal computer. In our modern life, the mini motor ventilators are very common. One of three desktops has one Sunon mini motor fan. This is another reason we explore with great curiosity and spirit to investigate everything about Sunon enterprise. In addition, Horng’s positive outlooks on life and the firm attitude for entrepreneurship is the focal point we hope to research on. During the research, we added on introductions to the products, and also took part in taking care of the children with cerebral paralysis. The moving and the tension of the time when we’ve first took care of them gave us quite a big shock. They hoped to stand up and walk by themselves but it could take lots of time and effort. However, they never give up. And for the topic, we hope also to pass on the spirit of Liao-Fan's Four Lessons to all the students of the world, and to cooperate with the moral education implementation with the Ministry of Education. Chairman Horng once said, “A person distinguished, without morality, is only a beast.” We can understand that morality plays a critical role in our world. Finally, we hope that through this project, we can care for those who pay their lives and effort, and to let all people know that, in Kaohsiung, there is a low-key and pragmatic business helping Taiwan fight for glory, and taking care of the disadvantaged groups with true love. And that enterprise is called “Sunon.”

Along with the rapid development of the Internet, computers and Internets have already turned into a magnificent and unstoppable trend. Therefore, we often make use of the T1 Internet broadband the school has provided us to do data transferring and data organizing. Also, the teachers applied an Internet space from the school, and through the FTP uploading software, it gives convenience for us to upload the searched data to our own folders. And we can also open them up anytime if we need to correct data. Not only dose it decrease the inconveniences of everybody who has to carry flash drives all the time, but also let teams comprehend the progress of data collecting. Because there are first and second graders in the team, everybody's interaction is still unfamiliar. In addition, everybody’s skills is not complete. So the members use most of their time after school or at home to finish works. When uploading pages, we feel more needs to use the school’s T1 Internet broadband in order for us to search data on the Internet quickly without worrying about the “Traffic Jam” problems! At home, we use the broadband ADSL or wireless Internet access. The speed may not be as good as the school’s, but because we use the division of information searching and it sure enhance a lot of efficiency.
4. Problems We Had To Overcome
First, some schoolmates need more time to absorb the basic manufacturing animation technology. Therefore, teachers will use club time or after school to train them. Second, some club activities are conflicted with our practice time. As a result, teachers will use the break time to hold the simple progress discussion conference. Third, everybody’s learning capability is dissimilar. Therefore, teacher divides all schoolmates into several groups, and selects the group leaders to grasp the progress. Fourth, a lot of materials are the same in the network so teachers and fellow schoolmates have leafed through all related magazine and the newspaper to take the reference. Fifth, in order to avoid the anxiety and fear when we interview, we think the related questions in advance. Finally, this is our first time to attend this kind of competition. As for the first visit, everybody practices completely in order to avoid any mistake. After interviewing, everybody assigns work. Some people will reorganize the key points; some people record the content to transfer the text file. After surveying all the data, some students make the revision and the conformity.
5. Our Project Sound Bite
We know that all of the excavations are endless, after a problem-solving, there comes from many questions, and only through the process to get more information, and interview is the best way. As the saying said, “I hear but I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.” Only has what you see and what you do, to make a deep impression with image and meaning. Joining this contest will let us know different learning ways and experience many things than usual. At the same time, we learned the ability to processing data and the skill of computer and interview. But, the most importance is that we also learned about adaptability and conversation skills, integration and organization skills, as well as team spirit.
6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?
An enterprise cannot just an enterprise. Recently, there have been a lot of companies in Taiwan which try their best to help those disadvantaged around the world. They have a belief. We should fight for the reality and overcome any difficulties. But when we keep this belief on our mind, we need more strength to inspire us. As chairman Horng once said, “A person distinguished, without morality, is only a beast.” It’s true that morality plays a critical role in our life. Therefore, in Taiwan, we are dedicated to the moral education when children are still young. Only the morality can create a peaceful environment. And the business management in Sunon is really a good example for us.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?
The tools and techniques we use are hardware such as Desktop computer, digital camera, ADSL, Wireless surfer, T1, Broadcast teaching system, Tabulating machine, Cartography software (PhotoImpact8), Animation software(FLASH, MX2004), software such as Office2000(Word, FrontPage), File transmission program (CuteFTP), Windows XP, Television, telephone, cell-phone and the generally equipment such as CD-RW and DVD-ROM. Thanks to complete learning environment in our school, we can use all tools and equipment without any difficulties.
2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.
Life is like a circle. We never know when and how we will meet each other. To visit the founder of Sunon enterprise, Alex Horng, is also an accident. At school, we study Data Processing, specialized in computer and business. We hoped to find related topics before we choose topics to make an introduction, and because of the introduction of our vice principal, we have known the former principal of Feng Jia middle school, Cheng Jen Bang, and also recommended to get the opportunity to listen to Chairman Horng’s speech. During the speech, we find Mr.Horng, with a positive, innovative, and pragmatic attitude, created the Sunon enterprise, the Sheng Yuan Center for special children, and the Sunon charitable foundation. Those attitudes attract us to interview with him face by face. During interview, through our oral language, body language and eye contact, we can feel Chairman Horng’s positive outlooks on life and the firm attitude for entrepreneurship which inspire us a lot.
3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?
In our project, we not only care about the technology but also the humanity. We hope that through Alex Horng’s story, more and more people can devote themselves to helping others. No matter who you are rich or poor, the most importance is the unselfish heart. When I tell the story to my parents and friends, all of them feel touched. Therefore, we think about the disaster in Japan now, everyone can do anything to help any people. For example, if you are rich, you can donate them. If you are poor, you also can say prayers for them. All of our behaviors depend on our attitudes. And this is I learned from chairman Horng. I also hope that more people can develop their morality through our project.
4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?
By taking part in Sunon Charity Foundation,we not only understand how to do our best to help disadvantaged groups, but also make the members of our community know about the organization, then join with us and enjoy in the meaningful activity. Although we are just students,we also hope that we can provide something for the community and transfer the aim of Sunon Charity Foundation over the worldwide
5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
We discovered a fact that whenever we talk about investigation, it’s all about endless mining. After a problem is solved, more inquiries come along. And only through this process will we acquire more information, interviewing is the best way. There’s a saying, “I hear but I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.” Only by seeing and experiencing it yourself will it leave behind a really deep impression and meaning. Participating in this contest gives us a different way of learning and lets us experience many rarely encountered occasions. At the same time, we have learned data management abilities, technical uses of computers and interview techniques. For example, we increase our adaptation abilities and conversation skills, develop our integration skills and organization abilities, and understand the importance of team work. In the beginning, everybody’s handling capability wasn't good enough and the understanding of monographic reports weren’t deep, either. But after everyone’s hard work, we can easily master monographic reports, and deeply understand what monographic reports do. Though the process is rough, it also let us learned a lot. In the end, team work is the most important in the entire process. Working together, communicating with each other, interacting with each other and trusting one another is necessary.
