Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Shangyi County, a myth place with a reputation of the North Gate of Beijing, the capital of China, located at the Southside of the Mongolian Plateau, has the population of 200 thousand living on more than 2600- square- meter beautiful high land. The people, who nurtured by a long civilization of Chinese culture, has earned its style as simplicity, generousness, diligence, courtesy and hospitality.

The weather here is very typical as dry, windy and grassy inland with the average rainfall of about 413 mm, temperature of 28 F. Generally speaking, it’s a really cool place to have a holiday while it is very hot and humid and uncomfortable in the south of China every summer.

So, tour industry in this rural place is being planned and developed as well as the other necessary entertainments and services such as roads, communication, hotels and power.

Historically, this area was inhabited by the shepherds until the middle of Qing Dynasty, when the mass of immigrants moved in. Since then agriculture had been introduced in and developed. Its Youmai, a kind of wheat, is exported to far south of China as healthy food with low fat, low sugar but full of other nutrition.

This is our first time to attend the competition of the international web cyber so we didn’t know how to do with it. But with Mr Fu’s help, by the way, Mr Fu, our teacher, who has taken part in this kind of contest twice, is experienced in the field, we managed it. First, we together decided a theme, then divided for several parts to take different responsibilities, some were for the pictures, some for the historic information, some the web. After a work of a month, everything was near its end. At the beginning of this October, it finally came to a relief – we transferred our product with accomplishment in our minds.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

The main goal for taking part in the Weber is to promote our hometown thus we can love her more. For this purpose, the schoool decided to put some knowledge of local geology and culture of sheep match. This way, there will be more students that will understand more about the local culture. And besides, we have invited one of leaders of the town coming to our class for a report about the sheep match and how it relates to the development of the town economy from which the pupils learned a lot.
