Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

To define “local community” in terms of the geographical concept, it means that people in the same area and the same space have close interaction and contact, and therefore people can have mutual identity in emotion. This definition exactly describes the situation in our community—“Sijhih”, the garden behind Taipei. Sijhih is located in Taipei County, the suburban area in Taipei city. This place has a number of beautiful landscapes that cannot be seen in other cities. Stretching mountains, flowing water, singing birds, a carpet of green grass and beautiful flowers, as well as the various attractions, such as Danshuei, Chinkuashih, etc, all of which would take our breath away in astonishment. Distant from the bustling Taipei downtown area, this suburban area is great for people to relax and take a rest. In addition to its unique historical backgrounds, valuable historic spots, various nature scenery, rich ecological resources, and cute local people, Sijhih is a place deserves much exploration. In order for people from all over the world to get closer to this place, let us take you to 'visit' our hometown!

2. Summary of Our Project

To make people get know more about “Sijhih”—the suburban area in Taipei, we introduce the geographical environment, historical backgrounds, and a variety of cultural landscapes, historical spots, and natural scenery of this place. We also interview the local people about their view on their place of residence and its history, so as to complete the information in our project. Moreover, in this project, we introduce new bike trails for bicycle tours. Riding bicycles is environmentally friendly for visitors to get close to the nature. It is also a good way to take people to experience the beauty of Sijhih area. Nowadays, since life in modern urban people has become more and more bustling, people need more leisure activities to relax. Therefore, with our introduction of a number of tourist attractions and bike trails for bicycle tour, we hope to help people be away from the city hubbub, get closer to the nature, and relax body and mind. So, come with us to enjoy this beautiful place!

We hope that participating International Schools CyberFair could promote this beautiful land to the world, and hope that people from all over the world can see the passion and uniqueness of Sijhih. We also wish that our project could let everyone not only know more about Sijhih, but take the opportunity to look at our beautiful land of 'Formosa' Taiwan. We hope to show Taiwan to the whole world, to the global village. This is our dreams, and we truly believe in the beauty of our dreams.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Here are the problems we met when doing this project and how we try to solve them: 1. Not good at language writing: we asked the relevant questions to our Chinese teachers. 2. Technical problems with art designing: we asked our friends and teachers who have good command of this skill. 3. Not proficient in English: we asked English teachers for help and discuss with them. 4. Computer skills about Flash production needs to be advanced: we asked teachers and IT volunteers for help.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

In this journey of Sijhih trip, the tight time schedule is the barrier difficult to break through, even so, we still try hard to weave our dreams and believe in our dreams. It is the beautiful scenery of Sijhih that have aroused ripples in our minds. All we want to do is to unite this beautiful land with people. This is our dreams, and this dream will never be given up.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

During the process of doing activities and research for this International Schools CyberFair Project, we learned a lot of computer skills, including the use of Photo Impact and Firework to make picture elements, the use of Flash to do animation, the use of GoldWave to edit musics. Also, we learned to know how to connect geographical knowledge with our life, and also practiced a lot about language skills. Most of all, we recognize team spirit and attitude. All of these could help us learn and study, and apply knowledge we learned from our school courses.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

By doing the research project and collecting all the relevant information about Sijhih, we put the project on web pages and hope that people could know this beautiful and unique city. Also, we interview with people who live in Sijhih for a long time, so that people could have better understanding about this place and Taiwan, a beautiful country.

In addition to collecting related information about Sijhih from Internet, it is also very important to do the field trip and visit and interview with the residents, who can provide the history of Sijhih and the information about beautiful scenery, which cannot be found on the Internet or books. Therefore, having a lot of people in this community to work on this project is really great!

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

In the process of doing School Cyberfair project, we are pressed from time pressure, mainly because we do not properly follow our schedule plan, and therefore, we have learned that we must have plans in advance. We also know how to practice and should not delay things that should be done. We should 'never put off till tomorrow what should be done today !'
