Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Singapore is a multi-racial country. There are many races living here and they are the Chinese, Malay, Indians and Peranakans. Singapore becomes a multi-racial country when Sir Stamford Raffles 'opened' Singapore to the world and transformed it to one of the busiest trading port for shipping industry in the world.

2. Summary of Our Project

Other than working hard due to our busy lifestlye, we know where to find good food with an affordable price. Morever, we can find delicious foods from any of the races here. Hence in this project, we are going to show you the various and famous food in Singapore. We will list down the types of food and why they are special and unique.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We do not have sufficient timet to complete the project as the initial part of the project was done during our school holidays in December 2009. Next we had to accomodate everyone to see when they we are free as everyone in the team have other activities going on.

However, we tried our best to accomodate with one another, for example the meeting time. It was difficult at the beginning, to find a suitable date and time for our meet up. We are not close to each other hence at the beginning we had to deal with some miscommunication issues but we overcame it. In this project, we realised teamwork is demonstrated and we believed that because we helped and care one another, we are able to complete the project as a team.

As for the technical problems we do faced certain issues. To overcome it, we seek our IT Trainer for guidance on the software to design the website. We also use the internet for our research and also to check for solutions. We felt like giving up at times due to the lack of skills but we perservere, encourage one another and we believe we could complete this project.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

This participation has makes the students learnt the different types of delicacies cater to different types of races in Singapore such as - Malays, Chinese, Indian and Peranakans.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This project fit into our school as our school consist of different races studying together. They are Malays, Indians,Chinese and Peranakans. And this is part of their learning in their Social Studies subject where by the students will learn the interesting culture of all the races in Singapapore.

The new skills that the students learnt: Teamwork, using Dreamweaver software to design and create the website. Doing research online and selecting the reliable source.

Teaching and learning using the internet is an interactive way of learning for the students. With this modern world, it is important that we integrate online learning to have their learning be more effective and students will have a better view of what they need to learn and accomplish at the end of their lesson.
