Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Las Piñas is our community, where any visitor or tourist would be immersed in the experience of local history even if they only pass by. The aura of the Spanish times is present all throughout the Las Piñas 'Bayan' with its historic architecture. The people in the 'bayan' although mostly laid-back and relaxed are hard-working and industrious, with their industry dating back when they all united in restoring the Bamboo Organ which was almost destroyed many years ago. When there are feasts like the Bamboo Organ Festival , they seem to forget all the worries of daily life and enjoy the day while it lasts. The Las Piñas community is also a caring and warm community, suitable for any family that want to live in here.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our project is about one of our national treasure, the jeepney. The jeepney rose from the on surplus 'Willys' jeeps that were used during World War II. As time passes by, many people decided to use these old jeep craps in order to make a means of transportation, jeepney, which up to now is used by many Filipinos. We made this site in order to share information and different hidden values about our national treasure, because we want to 'TEACH/spread' our knowledge about the jeepney, and 'UNITE' every Filipino about it, for a better future.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

In the High School Department, we have 60 computers (estimated), and our school has 60 computers(estimated), too, in the Grade School Department. All computers have a dedicated connection to the Internet.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Some problems we had to overcome, are time management, lack of resources, and lack of some software. We overcame these obstacles, by having our free time as our 'project-making' time, and we are able to buy and borrow some software and resources from our friends and relatives.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

The Philippine jeepney will continue to ride its way for the development of the value of a proud Filipino and the country itself.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our activities and researches, that standards our Cyberfair project address is when we are trying to interview a 'big person'. We know that this would take a lot of time from us, but still, we reached our goal. We learned that we can manage our time, even if we are just students, and that we can do things we are just dreaming.

For us, using the Internet for teaching and learning is a more effective training method, because we are now in the age of technology, but we still recommend using books, because actually, almost all information from the Net are too complex, unlike those that are direct from books.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

The information tools and technologies we used to complete our Cyberfair project are Internet access, TV stations, libraries, books and interviews. These tools helped us by giving us the correct and reliable information, plus it gives us an easy and fast way of receiving information. We located these tools in our school library, computer laboratory, and in our homes. The most valuable tools, for us, are computers with Internet access, because these provides us a faster and easier way to locate the information we need.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We students, became 'little ambassadors', in the way that we want to share what we want and know, because we know very well that doing this could be a little way to unite our country for the future of every one of us.

As students, we felt a little bit of nervous, because, first of all, talking a 'big person' could be crucial, but we learned that they are just like us, for we are just citizens of this country.

With the help of our classmates, teachers and friends, it is okay, even if we don't receive any impressions or donation, because for us, receiving help is already a good thing.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

As normal students, we are projecting a good impact, because we know that this could make a difference. Some people already learned new things from our web pages, and we are able to give them the right information, which is a good help for our classmates, and for other people. As of now, we are receiving good feedback, but actually we want to receive good feedback about the content of our web site and not for our design or graphics. We look forward for a good future for our web site.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our helpers are our teacher, Ms. Sara Ortiz, our moderator, Sir Albina, our classmates from II-St. John of the Cross, our friends, parents and of course, the Almighty father. They are helping us, by providing us advices like, 'You can do it, by just clicking...' and supports like, 'I'll post your link worldwide...'. They are also providing us some resources we need, and because of that we are able to finish our project.
