More than 300 years ago, immigrants surnamed Xiao and Liu moved from Fujian Province to here. They cultivated at this place and built the village before the entrance of Babuza. Pepo Tehuloen village. Therefore people call this township 'Shetou'. Shetou is not only a beautiful and peaceful place, but also have many spots for you to visit on vacation. There are three specialties in Shetou: ': 1. Plenty of socks, 2. Plenty of guava, and 3. Plenty of presidents of company.' Among them, ' socks ' is the most famous specialty in Shetou. Therefore, when you visit Shetou, you must buy the socks, unless you will come to a treasure mountain and go back empty-handed. The Socks produced in Shetou already has great reputation in Taiwan, in the future, we will popularize its reputation to the whole world and let the people all know Shetou's socks!

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The first problem we faced was time problems. Because it's a little late when we decide to participate in 'GlobalSchoolNet', we didn't have enough time to study it. Besides, all our team members are at sixth grade, so we are busier in studying than the other grade students. Because of this reason, we worked very hard to finished our study. We spent our break time between courses, and also sacrificed our vacation. Besides, we assigned our job efficiency to finish by teamwork. We also had communication and interview skills problems. This is our first experience of interview, besides some team members were very shy and nervous. Although we collected information and prepared questions every time before the interview, we usually just didn't know what we should ask at the interview. Even thought teachers already helped us to simulate interviewing. Besides, they also told us the skills of listening carefully, looking for any questions, no interrupting, and asking questions at the appropriate time, etc. Those skills really helped a lot.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Through this study, we learned not only the knowledge of socks, but also understood the importance of team work.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We combined Grade 1-9 Curriculum in Taiwan with the study of 'GlobalSchoolNet'. There are language, social studies, art and humanities, mathematics, science and technology, health and physical education, and integrative activities. Through this study, we learned how to write a progress report, analyze data, and formulate the interview questions. Besides, we knew the situation of the community and the plight of the industry. Now we do care of the industry of our community and also our communities. In math aspect, we learned how to create a questionnaire survey. In science and technology aspect, We learned how use electronics products to record the interview as video, audio, and pictures. And we also learned how to produce web pages and sent data by computers and internet.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

In this study we adopted many tools to help us finish this web page. For example, we used computer provided by school to search information, to record our study and gains, to edit the pictures, and to analyze the data, etc. In order to work efficiently, we used computers in each classroom, then we can process our task during the break time. Besides, the recording pen is also very usful for us. Since we were not familiare with the socks industry, we could not understand or write down all the interviewing content. At this time, recording pen is really our good partner.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In our study, we were novice intreviewers exploring every details of socks industry. For example, we interviewed the people in socks auction, the owner of socks factory, and the owener of socks shop. Besides, we were also like operators to experience socks manufacturing. After experienced as operator, we were very closed to the operators on production line. We are really impressed by their hard working. And as for them, they were very glad to share their experience with us.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

Before we started this study, we are students who don't care about anything about the socks industry of our hometown. But through study, we started to know the importance of the socks industry to us. We also started to care about the declined industry, and hope we can do something for it. Through this study, we feel the two generations is getting much closer. Children who don't care about what their parents do before, now start to have mission for their family career. Through this website, we believe we can arouse more people's attention to socks industry. Furthermore,we wish more people will be more willing to contribute to this industry.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

In our study, our teachers always act as good consultants and reminders of us. Since we are still young, we might lost our direction, or forget to finish our tasks on time. At this time, we teachers always gave a hand to us. Besides, the interviewees who greeted us friendly also helped us a lot. Although they were very busy, they still spent time to share their experience and their company information with us. We really thank them since they did these voluntarily.
