Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

From the opening of its first store in 1989, Makro had swiftly became the largest retail outlet in Taiwan. It not only revolutionized the wholesale and retail markets, but also laid the foundation for the shopping habit of?one shopping, bulk purchase?for hypermarket customers. Due to the stiff competition among hypermarkets, strengthening the salability of stores and its competitiveness have been the targets of each hypermarket. Other than creating their own brands, hypermarkets bring in drugstores, hi-tech stores, jewelry stores to entice more customers. These made it easier for customers to select, and also made it to be the unique quality for each hypermarket.

2. Summary of Our Project

There are many warehouse stores in Taiwan, the cluster of warehouse stores in Neihu Fifth Redevelopment Zone is the most famous. Neihu residents like to shop at leisure time, and people from other areas like to come here to shop too. With their localization strategy , RT Mart supplied customers with best and most convenient service and successfully established itself as a giant in the retail market. LiShan Shoppers would like to use RT Mart as our subject and introduce a legend of the south end of Neihu Dawan.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

The traffic near RT Mart is always congested during holidays. We tried to capture the frequency of the passing cards with digital recorder once, but we were surprised to find that all the cars slowed down, and the drivers were giving us hard stares. We realized that we were mistaken for traffic controllers, and quickly put away our camera. We had to hide in the car to take pictures at the end.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

After we learned about economic spending habits of warehouse store customers, we realized the conveniece and services warehouse stores offered are immense.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

By knowing our community and our future expectations, we use economic situation as an objective to choose RT MArt as our subject to learn abaout the shopping habits of our community members and coordiated it with our couses in civil and ethics.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Our researches in RT Mart revealed more things about RT Mart that we did not know before, and let us know more about RT Mart. For example, with the special restaurants, stores, and food court on the first floor, customers not only can shop for life necessities but also take a walk around. Among those stores, the most special one is the convenience store, which offers customers merchandise in small amount while the warehouse up there offers merchandise in large amount. Besides, there is also a post office inside RT Mart Neihu Second Store and its operating hours are longer than the post offices outside, which allows people who are busy at day have another choice to send letters or packages and will not be troubled by the operating hours of general post offices.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We found that residents of Neihu have great demands of warehouse store. And we could recomend best shopping area to our family and friends.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

Our parents and our friends are very interested in our project, and are anxious to find out what impacts RT Mart has on our daily lives.
