Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Zhangyi Middle School is located in Zhangyi Town, Yuanzhou, Guyuan, Ningxia. It is 38 kilometers away and in the southwest of Guyuan. It is in the place where three counties meet: Yuanzhou, Longde County and Xiji County. There is mild temperature, beautiful scenery and quick traffic. It is dry hill land in loess plateau. The main industry is agriculture. Yangyu is a major local cash crop, accounting for the local plant area of cultivated land area of 50%.

2. Summary of Our Project

Yangyu is widely planted and famous things, in many big city people it is so small and normal. It is the hope of the ningxia southern part mountainous area common people living and wealth, which is the pole industry and helping the poor. It is the nut and golden bean in the local.

There are 64 computers in the school, with the 20 in the teacher’s office, one in each office. The school is in 10 M widthband. There are two internet café in the town, the students knows more about the internet.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Lack of experience:After deciding, we don’t know how to start, we waste 1 month. Regulating the students into unconfidence, mainly because lack of experience and plan.Mr. Xie once attend the webpage in the match in 2006, through him, and part of teachers, we finally come into our way. Tight time:Lack of experience and reasonable plan, as well as the time wasting and many things in the school, our time is tight at the end.Taking the weekend and leisure time to take the pictures and finding the details, we start to make the webpage.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

With the development and attention on the yangyu, as well as the research and interview about the value, people knows more about the yangyu importance in the life and mind, especially in northwestern china. They are all clear that we grow up with it.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

This year is a financial crisis, the local yangyu, unlike in previous years as selling the field, the yangyu farmers have pressure at the cellar, which largely affects the economic income of farmers, therefore, through this event, we let the students and most people know the importance of yangyu for Farmer, meanwhile, like to take this activity to enable students to practice effective social activities and school information technology courses combine the use of information technology courses learn the knowledge, skills the homeland of the yangyu in the form of web pages to show to the outside world, to let more people know the local specialty, improve students love learning, love of homeland passion.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We use information technology tools are: Hardware: laptop. Computer, digital camera. Software: Dreamweaver 8.0?photoshop cs2 9.0?office 2003? ACDSee9.0 Network and digital cameras are our most valuable tool, application software are downloaded from the network on the use of the process, through the teacher's guide and online help, students gradually learn to use these tools.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

The event mainly by the group to help me complete the number of students in activities, they mainly through personal visits, telephone and Internet and other means to complete the data collection and to form through the web page to show the local yangyu, and This year coincides with the financial crisis, yangyu sell very well, the financial crisis to the local yangyu growers have brought tremendous losses, during the interviews, many farmers are very much touched to know we are willing to tell us, and hope that through our The page can local yangyu, to convey their views to the outside world: yangyu backlog worse, they had the heartbreaking! 3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

This event, we visited the potato plant personnel, acquisition personnel, starch factory personnel, and some agricultural experts.Through our invstigate and popularity, many people start to know the value and importance of yangyu, especially those anti-farmer. It is always remember that when I interview with one: she said though I didn’t plant, I know more from you about the yangyu. I am grateful that the farmers can grow those for us. Before it is only for the survive. Now it can make money and more dishes to the people. What good she said!

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

The event mainly by the group members on behalf of Wang Zhangdai, Bai yansong, Wu Sanming these students to help me to complete, and in the activities of process, we mainly through personal visits, telephone and network of data collection, student mission clear, has to collect, collate information, investigate has interviewed and photographed, as well as input language, the production of web pages, it can be said that solidarity. 5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

At first, we always are criticized by the teacher for the photo. This is not the normal camera, costing 10000 professional camera. I cannot master it for a short time. but the teacher encourages, directs me how to take the view and adjust. After several times effort, I finally take the satisfactory photo. I am so exciting for the teacher’s encouragement. Dreamweaver, I never heard about that. With the direction of the teachers, I master many skills. All the subpage is done by the students. I am more surprised that I can simply process the photoshop for the simply picture. So good! The only pity is I am shy in every interview. That is my weekness. But I am sure that I can absorb the lesson to make it better for everyone.
