Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Zory is a situated town in the south part of Poland. It was established on the woody areas which still surround the town. You need only a half an hour away from the city centre to go for a walk to the forest. Our community need places where people can relax and soothe. Our community that is everyone who lives in Zory and its surroundings: kids and adults. They have opportunity to relax in Rudy Wielkie Parkland, where besides didactic paths and natural monuments, people can admire the old monastery. Excursions, cyclists, photographers and people arrive here to relax, and forget the hustle and bustle of citylife.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our Project tells about Parkland located nearby our town. The Parkland is in English style which means it is as close to the nature as possible. All changes in nature happen because of natural reasons. That is why we want to show how the park changes itself in each season. In addition we decided to show its meaning and functions in the neighbourhood, and history of the monastery standing in the center of the park.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

One of the three fully equipped computer classrooms was won by our school in all - Polish contest “Superschool”.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

To gather the necessary information for the project we had to visit the park in Rudy Wielkie several times. We wanted to take the pictures of the park in each season of the year. It was a problem because we worked on something we couldn’t control, e.g. the weather which made us to change our plans several times. Once when we were taking pictures which were to show spring, warm weather, the terrible hailstorm started. Another problem was not very convenient public transport which didn’t let us visit the places we wanted easily. Moreover translating all the texts into English was not very easy for us.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

Rudy Wielkie is today's one of the few places where human can meet and be with nature. However, when they are ‘meeting’ they don’t destroy themselves, but they are trying to take from this meeting benefit for each other. Our thing to do is to create more places like that.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Fifth category affect local attractions – which are made by people and nature. Those category perfectly fit to our project, because the park about we made our project is an effect of nature and people's work. For example, at this time in the park are carry reovation's works of old cloister. Thanks to this place's wide variety of functions, students learned something about culture. We also learned something from history of Cysterican's Order. Cistericans are monks, which built there cloister and planted this park. We learned new facts about geology of this place, too. Notice – boards with names of species which are near every nature monument help us to recognize an old and rare species of plants. It is really helpfully for students in third classes, because on biology lessons they are learning about ecology, and endangered species. We checked it- more comfortable is to see some species by your own and mix with it, than learning about this by books and internet.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

To complete such complicated project we had to tap many tools. Most of the tools were available to us here, at school, but sometimes students and teachers were working at home. We have to our disposion 8 schools PC Celeron 2,4 GHz computers, cameras, camcorders, copy machines and a library. We also used a printers, scanners, and telephones which really help us. We used computer software: Microsoft World – to edit information, MS Outlook Express – to receive and send mail, MS Internet Explorer to search and browse the Internet resources, Microsoft Frontpage to design our web pages, a and sometime we used Windows Notepad to correct the html code, Google's Picassa to manipulate some photos, and Adobe Photoshop where we developed image of our Cyberfair site.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Students which were working on the project didn’t have to act ’ambassadors’ often. Work was very self-reliant, everybody were working on one with nature, not with peoples. We were talking only with the pastor who told us a lot about church architecture. Without him only our families take interest in this project.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We hope that his project will be able to show people this amazing place and attract their intrest, beacouse people often don't know that in ours neighbourhood is so wonderful place to rest. We want to make people by this site curiously about the parkland's history. We hope, if people from our town want to come there, that will come into begin better public communication with this place. This project is meant for people who likes to rest with nature. Futhermore in monastery are sometimes arrange concerts. This project show us, how many people didn't know how many attractions in this place they have overlooked.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

While working on the project, we were trying to recognize how people are intrested in this project and what they think about places as Rudy Wielkie. We decided to ask our friends and family. Lot of them didn't know anything about the parkland in Rudy Wielkie. Thanks are due to mrs. Bozena Tkacz- Biskupek, science teacher, she was responsible for the entire Cyber Fair project, and for mrs. Beata Pasierbek, English - lanague teacher, who checked our works and helped with all necessary translations. We would like to thank mrs. Katarzyna Dudek, who took picuters of parkland's winter and spring scenery.
