Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Niou-bobo Ecological Butterfly Gardens, located at AnKeng in the north of Taiwan, is the successful carp farm in my country. The parents often lead their children to come here and experience the rich ecology. Our school, AnKang Senior High School, had ever held a visit to the garden for students. We always saunter here on holiday. Niou-bobo's garden also draws fellow countrymen, in other county, to call on, and that lives up to it's reputation as a well-known local natural attractions.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our team investigated the 'Niou-bobo Ecological Butterfly Gardens', located in westren part of Sindian. We researched butterfly, carp and other plant and animals in the garden. The way we used is survey, photograph, asking visitors to fill in our question sheet and interview with the master. The goal of our efforts is to build web pages for 'Niou-bobo Ecological Butterfly Gardens' and share the natural resource with friends via net.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

The speed of our school's net is 100 MB, Fiber To The Building. The real route is through Chunghwa Telecom's net, than joins to the ISP, Education Bureau, Taipei County, connects to National Chengchi University's TANET by Main Network, and links to world wild web eventually.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Owing to the limit of competition time, we only investigated on the spot twice, and the weather was cloudy. The period of butterflies' activity and the time we work was reverse, and that led the kind of butterfly we photographed was rare. We had no chance of catching shadows of garden's treasure, Heng-chun birdwing butterfly, so we asked the net friend for it's picture. We only have leisure time to complete our web pages at midday rest in ordinary to the school time, and should prop our mind against sleepiness.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We learn more for participating in the meanful International Schools CyberFair, including ooperation, sharing, the respect of others' speciality and opinion, and that gave rise to exert ourselves thoroughly. We also study the software of web page and beauty, and make the web pages, Niou-bobo Ecological Butterfly Gardens, groundless including web layout, art of design and essay. In order to achieve the perfect situation of our pages, we renew and modify frequently.

From the interview with the Garden's master, Niou-bobo, we realize his determination for the land and the thought and concept of nature. The visitors also fill in our question sheet enthusiastically and answer the impression of Niou-bobo.

We are one of the net consumers in the past. And now, we are one of net producers.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Because of partaking this contest, we all study more than what teachers teach in class. It's more convenient to work with net than traditional method, such as going to library, but that needs sufficient expenditure. What a great human wisdom the computer is! Another things we learned are software-utilizing, abundant ecological knowledge and the importance of cooperation. For we, are all classmates mostly, work and communicate together to research and discuss, the tacit understanding between us increased by slow accumulation. The goal of our efforts for the competition's web pages is to advertise Taiwan's beauty and humanities and close up the distance between human.

We choose this category to participate because of propagating the Niou-bobo Ecological Butterfly Gardens and advocating the importance of ecology to everybody. More than the above, we want to transmit our intention to some trust company about the importance of natural ecology. That's why we participate enthusiastically for this International Schools CyberFair ignored the noon-time rest and holiday.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We worked at a computer classroom with 40 computers, Celeron CPU 2.40 Ghz, RAM 736 MB. The softwares of web pages and art are FrontPage, Flash, PhotoImpact 12, Painter, Word, FileZilla. Another assistant tools are paint tablet, WACOM Intuos2, and scanner, UMAX Astra 6850. Our team member duty of art beautify is skilled at paint tablet since two months ago. There are three digital cameras we used to work, the main's type is Cannon PowerShot S70. In order to record what Niou-bobo said, the technology we applied is MP3 with function of record. In addition to mentioning above, there is a method helpful for us, and that is question sheet, beating our brains. Through the question sheets, we realize what visitors' opinion and thought about Niou-bobo's garden is and get some information of butterfly garden. Finally, we still telephone Niou-bobo to prove some doubt in the process of building our webpages.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Since we registered this contest, we work hard to accomplish our web pages and resort to someone relate. For example, we call phones to Niou-bobo for some question we ignored before. He spoke incessantly at first, but he said goodbye to me and than hung up because I said 'Thank you!' in the midst of my talking. That's astonished me! We manufacture 10 question sheets and request visitors to fill in. We thank them for helping positively and passionately and talking about Niou-bobo with us. We also contact other team, organized for the purpose of natural ecology, to gather more data of Niou-bobo Ecological Butterfly Gardens.

There are considerable people supporting and helping us in the process of constructing the pages, and that lets us to understand not only we concern about this butterfly gardens but also the habitants and visitors love this treasure land.

Our keynote is ' Surveying the garden in detail to realize the ecological resources sufficiently, and making webpages to share with net friends and know the native wealth around the prosperous Taipei. There is a abundant ecological Niou-bobo Butterfly Gardens at AnKeng in the world! ' and that is what we emphasize and expect.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We understand more about the ecology of Niou-bobo's Gardens, the the efforts he devoted and 'As you sow, so shall you reap.'

We all hope for our webpages to propagate the beauty of Niou-bobo Ecological Butterfly Gardens and the characteristic of AnKeng.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

First, we should thank the master of garden, Niou-bobo, for interviewing with us to finish the project webpages. Second, we appreciate 10 visitors for writing our question sheets, and that helps us much. In addition to mentioning above, our gratefulness also includes as follows.

Once upon a time we met a teacher, he also made webpages for Gardens, who talked fluently and endlessly about what he knew and provided fis web link and mobile phone number for us. In addition, a female photographer, came from other county to film the butterfly and plant here, filled in our question sheet zealously and intoxicated with her photograph.

The period of butterflies' activity and the time we work was reverse, and that led the kind of butterfly we photographed was rare. We had no chance of catching shadows of garden's treasure, Heng-chun birdwing butterfly, so we asked the net friend for it's picture.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

We comprehend why Niou-bobo built Ecological Butterfly Gardens and protected it carefully in his life. Butterfly is becoming extinct and we, human, will not see her dancing anymore. We should guard her environment!

In the ecology-rich Garden, there is not only butterfly but also other kinds of animal and plant because it locates beside the mountain.

We all wonder there is a good place here around the tumultuous city in the first time. The peaceful land, as in the country, changes our countenance. Niou-bobo is a man of ardor, and he always answers what you ask when you stroll in the Niou-bobo Ecological Butterfly Gardens.
