Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Chaotian district in guangyuan city is at the north of Sichuan province, connecting with Shan xi province and located at the upper river. It lays 1620 square kilometer high, has 25 towns with a population of 210000. In this district, it is the big county of the ecological buildings and economic forests. There is a forest area of 1476 thousand cube meter. Together the forests form an area of 4587 thousand cube meter. The rate of the forest coverage is 57.6%. The character of the district is that it is high in the northeast and low at the southwest. The highest in the land is 1998.9 meters and the lowest is jiuchagou in 475 meters so that the district has a difference in altitude of about 1523.9 meters. With all this, there is a higher mountain area in the nortwest, a valley plain in the middle and a low mountainous area in the soutwest. The district belongs to subtropical climate with seasonal wind, a cold winter and a cool summer in the northeastern mountainous area and a a cold winter and hot summer in the valley plain. In all the territory, the weather is wet with sufficient rainfall but also with the appropriate sunshine and four different seasons. But because it is at the middle of the mountains, the joint of qinba mountainous area, it is rainy in summer and fall and windy in winter and spring. The average temperature is 12 to 15, the highest is 38-39, the lowest is -9.1 - -8.2, the time with no frost is 192 -250 days. The average rainfall is , focus from May to October. It is because the big difference of northeast and southwest that the season and weather are in 30 days difference. It is also because of this that the district is suitable for the summer and fall plant growing making it is interesting for walnut growing.

2. Summary of Our Project

Walnut is the special product in chaotian. In , the government hold the press conference in about the protection of chaotian walnut geographic mark. It is said that: live according to real situation. Chaotian district will take the walnut as the main industry: one is to pay attention on the basis construction, two is take the top leading, three is on the market building, four is on brand making, five is spreading the science and technic. The purpose of this research is to let the students know that the walnut has an active and important effect on promoting the village economic development, increasing farmers income, accelerating the business industry and activating the agricultural product, and then leading the parents, relatives and neighbors to plant the walnut trees and make money.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

This was our first time to attend the webpage match with the theme of ” local special product”. When the teacher mentioned the chaotian walnut, we were surprised for its use. Our teacher told us that if we don´t talk with other people there will be no information about the walnut. So we just took this attitude to attend. It was easy just to observe the walnut, but we didn’t find something special. So we went into the internet to find some material but we failed. When we felt depressed, we decided to go visit the forest bureau. The staff there were very warm. They explained to us interesting details and provided valuable materials. We really opened our horizon and then became confident. Though we met some problems during our visit, we were trying to overcome. Looking at our webpage, we are very excited because it is our rime of our work.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

It is said that life is beautiful as long as you can find it. We want to say that we live with walnuts but we didn’t realize them. From here , we can see that the students should not only read, but also be careful with life and observation. Our horizon should not be limited to books, but also include the news after school to know more about the homeland history and economy. We will widen our sight. The webpage making is same as learning. We, indeed, gain a lot from this webpage match.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We want to say that we live with walnuts but we didn’t realize them. From here , we can see that the students should not only read, but also be careful with life and observation. Our horizon should not be limited to books, but also include the news after school to know more about the homeland history and economy. We will widen our sight. The webpage making is same as learning. We, indeed, gain a lot from this webpage match.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We can see the walnut tree around us. But our students all have few knowledge about them. So this time we go deep into all the aspects of the walnut like history, function, planting, scale and product. We know the walnut all around, knowing the importance and function. But meanwhile in the activity we practiced the ability of processing the information ability, which will lay the foundation for the E-business in the future.
