Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Located at Neijiang city in Sichuan province, our school mainly introduces the leaf nerve picture in neijiang city zizhong county. zizhong belongs to sichuan province´s neijiang city, the only historically famous city. From west han wu emperor ruling year 6th( 135B.C.) to today, there were already 2000 years. Nowadays, zizhong is a cultural important county in neijiang and even southern Sichuan province. Zizhong folk culture arts are plenty, mainly on the yangge dance, the lianxiao and the puppet drama. In recent years, zizhong painter Mr. Sun wenguang continued to create the nerve leaf.

2. Summary of Our Project

From India and Eastern Han dynasty transferring into China, the leaf nerve picture got lost after the Qing Dynasty. Mr. Sun wenguang experienced from 1980-1990 finally drawing the leaf Buddhism figure mimicking and creating the handicraft—leaf nerve picture. Through his activity, we continued the spirit and took the book and culture. We hope we can contribute to saving the picture nerve culture and development.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:less than 20

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:1

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:2-3

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Our school has 15 computers due to the help of town-and-talent. Every time we do the webpage, we process pictures. It always takes half an hour for just picture processing.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

This is our first time to attend the international webpage match, also the first time for such a big match. We were very excited. When we started, we didn´t know how to choose the theme. There were many categories in the match. After several discussions, we decided to choose music and art. After choosing the theme, we started to split up and collect the details. The students were all careful when choosing the site and details. Everyday they used the after school time to collect the details and write the diary. We also used the holiday to visit Mr. Sun to introduce the diary. We also did the picture ourselves. After two months, our material was nearly finished and then we started to do the webpage. During the webpage making, our teachers were in charge of the design of the webpage. We were in charge of editing the words. We gained a lot.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

After the match, we felt a lot. Through two months effort, we collected all the material. Though designing the webpage was tough, we finally worked it out. We were all happy when we saw the final result. We enjoyed not only the result but also the processing. We learned the process from the books and got to know the cultural development of the leaf nerve. We felt the spirit of making a contribution and knew of the cohesive power.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Many support the non-material culture relic, which belongs to an unknown folk art. We hope we can introduce more people this activity so that it continues to go on.
