Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Located in Da An District, the best area of Taipei City, our school has best geographical location and traffic condition, near MRT, World Financial 101 Building. In recent years, energy saving and deduction of CO2 has become crucial issues. Taipei City Government has done its best to promote policies such as green environment, garbage classification, energy saving. The government not only has established “Warm House Air Reduction Promotion Team” to consecutively propose energy saving treatments, but also promotes “Community Energy Saving Consultant Team” to offer service to the general public how to save energy. The purpose is to let our living place a sustainable city with “blue sky and green land,” “energy-saving,” and “multi-species.”

2. Summary of Our Project

In recent years, we pollute the entire Earth environment, and consume the natural resources of the planet. Such life not only creates global warming to endanger human health, but also brings crises to the Earth ecology. In order to protect our planet, we tried to study the green life from green notion, green consumption, and green behaviors, in order to awaken people to establish a sustainable bio-Earth. Through the project, we wish to learn environmental protection knowledge together from data collecting and interviews; eventually, we wish to make an effort to the Earth through our research report, and to bring the original clearness and beauty to the Earth.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:more than 6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

The IT hardware facilities are complete in the school. Each classroom has a computer. Besides three computer classrooms and a multi-media classroom, there are LAN (with fiber bone and 100M ), internet (outward fiber and 10M ), and internet hard disc space. Therefore, it is very convenient in terms of data gathering, software teaching, and webpage making.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

1.Defining the Subject of the Research: In the beginning, we thought of that during the discussion, teacher had provided us the perspective of global warming and energy saving to be our research contents. 2.Data Collection and Sorting Out: After deciding the topic, we spent great efforts in looking up for the related data from internet. In addition, the interviewees were very eager to provide information to us that enlighten our data. In sorting out the abundant data, we also spent plenty efforts. We allocated the reading materials and trimmed the articles to be as simple and concise as possible, and have final discussions with teachers. The purpose is to wish everybody convenient in reading, and also make the contents of webpage suitable for general public reading. 3.Overcome of Time Arrangement: In the entire research process, we needed to use spare time to accomplish the project and to do all those works besides taking care of our school assignment. We use noon time of everyday and afternoon of Wednesday to conduct the project. Fortunately, we have the constant support and encouragement from teachers that let the project to be accomplished successfully. 3.Webpage Making: In the beginning, we are not familiar with webpage design, photo graphic treatment, content editing, and making animation. Teachers arranged computer lessons for us in the afternoon break time to teach us how to operate these skills step by step. Eventually, we present our webpage here.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

From the discussion, information collection, analysis, research to the display of web pages, these are the biggest joy and gains from instructing the students to carry out this topic research.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

A. The Project Combines Environmental Education Curriculum The purpose of environmental education is to cultivate our sense of environmental protection and care for homeland. It’s also to teach us the accurate environmental knowledge, the attitude and behavior of care for the environment. Together we may create a healthier living environment. Through the curriculum, we have better knowledge of environmental protection and energy saving. Wishing everybody holds correct bio environmental protection notion to care for the community and the Earth together. The purpose of the research is to let everybody know that environmental issue is closely related to everyone. If we may cultivate the accurate attitude toward the environment, then the serious problem--such as warm housing effect, earth slide, and so on--will obtain more care and participation from more people. B. The Project Combines Local Original Culture Education Curriculum The purpose of local education is to let us know the humanistic geography and natural surroundings, and to further understand the history and people of homeland, and to cultivate our care for the living land. Through the internet fair research project, we used Wednesday afternoons to collect data and to photograph on each inspection and visiting sites. We extended the learning space toward outdoors to facilitate our understanding to local community. By caring the details of homeland, we wish to protect our homeland by concrete action. C. The Project Combines Nature and Information Technology Curriculum Through digital camera, we collect our visiting footprints comprehensively. At the same time, by digital recording pen, we recorded our interviews, and by employing school internet in searching information, we uploaded our reports onto the internet on time and on schedule. More importantly, we made our research project webpage by various software that we learned, and thus to share our joy and harvest to everyone.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

1.Oral Interview: To visit and to interview funeral business –related personnel in person to understand better about funeral ceremony information. 2.Internet: To use internet to look for related web pages in order to collect information needed. 3.Digital Camera?Recording Pen: To photograph and to record during the visits and interviews. 4.Scanner?Printer: To employ scanner to treat the images, and to use the printer to copy and circulate data. 5.Telephone?Facsimile: To communicate and contact with the interview subjects through telephone and facsimile. 6.FTP?E-mail: To circulate and to save both pictures taken and the related data by teammates. 7.Mobile USB?CDRW: To store related data onto PC that unconnected to website. 8.Drawing Board: Via graphic image to let the web page contents more vivid and more interesting. 9.Computer Software: Dreamweaver, PhotoImpact, FlashFXP, Office, and so on.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

1. Asking for Specialists:According to the research project, we learned from the environmental protection specialists, store business operators, principal and directors of our school, wishing to know more about green life and their opinions from the interviews. 2. Interviews and Visits:to explain the subject and the purpose of our project by way of interview opportunities. 3. Parents Participation:To encourage parents to become our members to study the project together. 4. Community Interview:Through on-site interview and questionnaires to let the community residents to know our research topic and purpose in order to understand their views on green consumption, and by way of interview to promote the environmental protection and energy saving ideas as well as the crises human being are confronting nowadays.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

From the research process, we believe that human being and the Earth are a life together entity. However, nowadays, people for their convenience to develop land without considering the consequences, and to waste the resources and to make pollutions. In so doing, it not only endangers human health, but also brings crisis to the Earth. The development behaviors forces urban green land less and less; there are steel forest everywhere with high rise buildings. We simply live in an urban cement forest. Should we not to care more to the Nature, pay more consideration, we eventually will face the slash back of the Nature.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

To accomplish the project successfully, we would especially thank those interviewees, professionals and scholars of environmental protection, enthusiastic parents of schoolmates, and teachers that ever offered us information and opinions. Their assistances let our research contents could be rich presented, and further facilitate our project to be finished in a timely manner. The fruits belong to you. Finally, we would like to pay special thanks to three teachers who sacrifice precious time to carefully instruct us to conduct the research. In addition, we would like to thank three instructors who have sacrificed their precious leisure time almost every weekend to instruct us conducting the project. We here would like to thank all our friends that once offered a helping hand, and our parents to support us, thus we present this project web page to wish everybody good health and a healthier and more beautiful Earth.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

In the beginning, we knew nothing about the subject matter of the project. Such as the name of the topic, research outline, data collection (i.e., tools like oral method, books, magazine, or library electronic data bank, CD-Rom, internet sources.) and data sorting, and content writing, and so on. In addition, we knew nothing about web page making, either. Such as graphing modification, computer-aid graphics, animation, web page art and word, and so on. Fortunately, teachers designed a series study units to let us learn the techniques of project study and the collaboration. These skills help us accomplish the final results. We are glad that through teachers leading, we grew a lot. Along the way, there were hardships; yet we may accomplish the task successfully. In the process, we will learn the lessons from failure experiences, and adjust our shortcomings at all times to accumulate the learning experiences. Now, the fruits present here. We surprisingly find out that we are full of unlimited potential.
