Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

Tongjiang, locating at the northeast part of Sichuan province, anciently belong to ba country, in Qin dynasty, belongs to ba sheriff; Xiwei dynasty, become the county and it enjoys more than 1500 years history. It covers 4116 square kilometers and has 730 thousand population. It is known as “the capital of chuan, shan, su district”, “ chinese red army homeland” , “Chinese tremella homeland”, “Chinese carve homeland”.

2. Summary of Our Project

Tongjiang is the resource of Chinese tremella. Early in the Qing dynasty, tongjiang tremella has become the gift for the emperor. And also it was collected in the medicine masterpiece bencao question and answer, bencao poet explaination about the essence of medicine and yuxiang piaomiao, it has already enjoyed more than 100 years. In 1995, tongjiang was officially by Chinese special products committee as” Chinese tremella homeland”. In 2004, the government protect the tongjiang tremella original source. This time our theme is the tongjiang tremella. Our main task is to investigate the tremella growth, the current situation and effect of government exploit the tremella industry. Also we work on the tremella development and problems. Through our investigate, we have further knowledge about the tongjiang tremella.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

All the attendants are the first time for this match. They said that they are worried to fail. we directors are also feeling the pressure. But it is good that we finally finish this work. In this match, we learn a lot in investigating the theme—through tongjiang tremella, we know the tremella growth, second nature, picking and its products series to let us know the tremella all around. Also we know the whole process to be a interviewer. Our classmates practice in web site making to learn more skill. They master the software to make the web page from nothing, and know how to process the pictures. They can upload the details and photos to the internet. Surely, there is some failure during the investigating, e.g.: we over judge our ability when the frist time to museum. though a small part in the map, we took one hour and a half to be there by foot. Our feet got bleb. Through this activity, we feel the miracles of nature and we love the nature more.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Tongjiang tremella is the special products of tongjiang county. But not every household are growing the tremella. Those who live in the mountain can grow the tremella in large area for it has suitable environment. Because the field is far away from our school, we go there for interview and investigate by foot for about 30 kilometers. Also we take every afternoon and weekend to collect the materials as designated. We takes every weekend to discuss together about the web page making.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

Through this competition, we know more clearly about the proud of Tongjiang , which is tremella . Through the investigation of several months, though both of us feel very tired , we all feel gratified when we saw our achievements ,we feel that it is worthy no matter how hard and how tired we are. We met many trouble during the whole period, each members are comitied , we see many ways and overcome much difficulties and accomplish the task at last. we learned a lot through this experience and understand the wisdom , which normal says ---united is power.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

When we interview and collecting material, the local farmers are very happy hearing we are here for the tongjiang tremella. They are willing to answer our questions and invite us to see their tremella field. They explain us in details the whole process from seeding to picking and demonstrate us how to judge the fake. One villager said: we are welcome for your publicize our tremella. when our leaving, the keeper of tongjiang tremella museum told us to publicize tongjiang tremella to let more people to see the tremella. When back from interview, after seeing our photo by our neighbor ,they said: they also want to see the tremella growing and tremella museum. Though they are local in tongjiang, they are not very clear about the tongjiang tremella growing. Some students and teachers are editing the books about the tongjiang tremella growing, just in time to use our photo.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

When they start to collect the materials, all of us are not quite sure. We are the new comer and also are not quite clear if we are welcome. When we come to the tremella museum, the gate closed and no one is here. we are confused. One aunt come here to aks us if visiting. We said yes. She warmly introduce many museum knowledge and then hobbled to find the keeper pengshuan. We are moved. Mr. Peng knows us from the school, so he cancel the ticket and explain for us freely. He is very patient to all our questions. When leaving, we say thank you sincerely. After that, we heard that Mr. peng is the local villager. When we arrived, he dispose his farm work and come to us for opening the door and explain. Here we are grateful to him and that aunt’s help.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)
