Project Overview

1. Description of Our Community

This website was created by some students that are attending the Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi High School: Iulian Galan, Luana Golimbiovschi, Maria Moloci and Andrei Smid. The coordinator of this project was Mrs. Gabriela Coaja, teacher of I.T. in our school. The idea of this subject belongs to one of us, and studying the perspectives, we all reached the conclusion that it was a great idea, as most of the people have questions and doubts upon this myth. Our team was led by Iulian, as he participated in such contests before, and Luana, as for her good spirit of coordinating, assigned the tasks for each of us so that there was an efficient work for finishing the project. Luana is the “brain” of the team, she assigned duties for everyone and she talked to other people involved in the project and also took the interviews. For his love for books, Maria provided us with the information about this subject and told us many new things that we didn’t know about Vlad the Impaler. Seeking in the library, Luana and Andrei found interesting information regarding this issue, so they decided to present this information to you in an easy and pleasant way. Maria was assigned the job of translation all the contents into German, and adapting it in such way that it is pleasant to read. Meanwhile, Iulian made an electronic presentation for this topic and designed a website template. Finally, we put all our work together, so that the final result should be an optimized one and should satisfy anyone’s requirement.

2. Summary of Our Project

The reason for creating this website was informing the whole world regarding Dracula’s Myth, our history during the reign of Vlad the Impaler and the bond between them. We wanted to exactly settle the truth regarding what had happened in Tara Romaneasca 550 years ago and what was the reason for which Vlad the Impaler was called “Dracula”.

3. Our Computer and Internet Access

A. Percentage of students using the Internet at home:more than 50%

B. Number of workstations with Internet access in the classroom:more than 6

C. Connection speed used in the classroom:dedicated connection

D. Number of years our classroom has been connected to the Internet:4-6

E. Additional comments concerning your computer and/or Internet access (Optional):

Internet access was easily put to our disposal at school because we have a full schedule everyday and we couldn’t find the necessary time to work on the project. We made numerous tests of our web page so that we would be as satisfied as possible and hopefully the site visitors would enjoy it as well.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

We didn’t face too many problems until the finishing touches of the project. Although information was gathered quite easily, small problems occurred; some of the materials were hard to find, but in the end we managed to complete it successfully.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

As soon as the students found out about our project they were really intrigued by it and wanted to see our work and give us some advice. In the end they were real happy with what we had done and suggested students from other schools to view our project.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

Our project was directed to the whole world to exactly settle the truth regarding Vlad the Impaler. Our idea was immediately supported by our school because it offers information for our school's students and also for the Romanian population. Each of us, the project collaborators, had a lot to learn from this experience; things like web searching, web design, more information about Vlad the Impaler and the reason way he is seen as Dracula. We helped each other every time we here in need of it. The history of Vlad the Impaler has had a tremendous success in our school because of its variety of information and the things students can learn from it. We were aware of our school educational system and we have learned that we have an important influence as role models for the younger generation. Internet learning has been a lot more effective than traditional methods because students can find information faster on the internet.

Project Elements

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

During the development of this site we used the tools and technologies that our school offered. Among these we can enumerate the school's computers, the necessary software needed for the development of the site, books from the school library.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

We have informed all our school's students and asked for help, additional support and ideas for the project. To discover how many people know something about Vlad the Impaler and for new information, we interviewed some common people. We also put some questions to the school director who is Doctor in History.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

We tried to change the people`s conception about this historical Myth. Considering the fact that the project is in its primary state we don't think it has reached a world wide scale, but soon enough we hope it will. People who have access to the internet have mostly visited our web site so they could learn more about Vlad the Impaler. We received positive feedback for our project and it has helped our visitors with complex information.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

It has been said before that there was a variety of people who helped us to the development of our web site. The collaborators to our project gave us new ideas and possible web links were we found new information for the site. We would especially like to thank Coaja Gabriela - computer science teacher - who coordinated us in completing this project, Dumitras Virginia - German teacher and Ionesi Maria - who helped us in the translation of the text in german.

5) Discoveries, Lessons and Surprises (Optional)

During the interview we were surprised to discover that some people didn't hear about Vlad the Impaler or about Dracula. A thing that had us by surprise during the project was the fact that we could so easily do team work overcoming any problems that occurred.
