1. Description of Our Community

The target community in our project, Chang Cheng Community, is a traditional community that features gathering of historical tribes. In order to benefit local people and integrate local resources, several enthusiastic residents in the community founded Chang Cheng Committee in 1972, which held many activities in the following thirty years to serve the local people.

2. Summary of Our Project

Our project reports on Taiwanese operas practiced in Chang Cheng Community. It aims to present Taiwanese Operas from the following perspectives: The platform of the elderly, passing down the experiences, the introduction of the members in the opera troupe, the achievement and the prospects. We will also record their ideal of living and learning. It is hoped that our project can promote the idea of community development in this society.

4. Problems We Had To Overcome

Throughout the preparation process of this competition, we found ourselves disagreeing with each other over several issues. However, we tried hard to negotiate with each other and finally reached consensus. Beside, we had a difficult time trying to keep a balance between license test, monthly exams and our project. Other difficulties we met include the arrangement of the project and some technical obstacles, such as insufficient web-page skills. When encountering these problems, we work together to solve them, we either also our teachers for help or search for relevant information online to help us get through.

5. Our Project Sound Bite

We learned the spirit of ‘Living and learning’ from those grandpas and grandmas in Chang Cheng Community, and the importance of passing our culture down to our offspring.

6. How did your activities and research for this CyberFair Project support standards, required coursework and curriculum standards?

We applied what we have learned in school, such as Flash skills, to practical use, and we also learned the importance of teamwork.

1) What information tools & technologies did you used to complete your CyberFair project?

We used DVs, recorders, digital cameras, scanners and notebooks to record the interviews we did, and we also recorded how we made the web pages. The softwares we have made use of include Flash MX 2004, Namo5.5, PhotoImpact12, and CyStudio. The sources of the information in our project come from local newspapers and flyers.

2) In what ways did you act as "ambassadors" and spokespersons for your CyberFair project both on-line and in person.

In our project, we interacted with the elders in the community, chatting with them and interviewing them. We asked them about their opinions of and participation in the community activities and we represent these in our project. Our interviewees were glad that we paid attention to their efforts and thus worked with us willingly to finish this project.

3) What has been the impact of your project on your community?

During the project, we adduced some materials supplied by the community. They’re all authorized. And we tried not to invade the laws.

4) How did your project involve other members of your community as helpers and volunteers?

We collected the data for this project by means of interviews and information authorized by the community. We give our heartfelt thanks to the director and SunHope Taiwanese Operas Troupe. Without their assistance, we wouldn’t have been able to finish this project.
